Easy mobile phone portability in Spain
If you have a mobile phone line contract that you want to end and you don’t want to lose time waiting for a call-center worker sorting things out what you might consider is making a portability from your contract to a pre-paid mobile phone deal. In order to end a contract you might need to send a certified-fax (burofax) which costs itself nearly 24 euros. Then you might need to wait for several weeks that your wish should procede until your line is cut and the contract ends. I have read on some forums about some cases that lasted several months. This is boring.
On the other hand, as I’ll explain, making a portability was the best solution for me when I decided to end my contract with Yoigo 10 days ago. And it worked even better than what I was expecting. I have chosen to move my line to Simyo, as they don’t have any monthly extra charge for pre-paid users. (Yoigo charges 6 euros every month. If you charge your line with 10 euros of credits and don’t use it in 2 months your 10 euros would be disappearing. Stupid.)
Anyways, the process was easy. Simyo has a foolproof online sales process which yield things convenient. I have applied through their page on 21st of August and in less than 10 days things were sorted out. (It costed me 10 euros but they turned it back as a credit on my line.) I didn’t have to call any customer service call-center. I received 3 sms messages related to the portability process and shipment. The contract ended and I still keep my number. I have 10 euros credit to spend and afterwards I’ll probably let it go.
This process could be repeated even if you change the company names. I have chosen Simyo because I wanted to avoid Orange, Vodafone and Movistar and I was unhappy with Yoigo’s 6 euro monthly charge. You should check with the company that seems nice to you if their online sales platform permits you start mobile phone portability process and if they have rational pricing policies.

Bionic eyes become a reality
Today while I was giving a glance on Engadget, I have find an interesting article: “Bionic lens to debut in the next half-decade”
I have always thought since my childhood that having bionic eyes is pretty intriguing. Any one who have watched 6 million Dollar man would probably think alike.
Dante Cesa of Engadget, the author of the mentioned article that according to Professor James Wolffsohn from Aston University in the United Kingdom imagines that within the next decade, the cure to near- and farsightedness will not only exist, but will actually be within reach. Beyond the concept what makes that this is possible is because they are also working with some opthology companies to commercialize the whole concept.
Without any doubt this is a good news with people with eye problems and for blind people. The possibility of combining the bionic lenses/eyes with other type of computer technologies would also make a great contribution and would yield to new advances for people with eye-problems or for professionals like doctors, pilots who might receive additional information about what they see. The potential is endless and advances in nanotechnology and nanoscale fabrication techniques would make possible the creation of these kind of advanced bionic eyes.
Bionic eyed modern Cyclops would replace all concepts previously appeared on comics or movies like Terminator, Bionic Woman…

Lithium Ion batteries 10 times longer with nanotechnology
While reading gas2.org I found out about a research held at Stanford University that made it possible increasing the capacity of lithium-ion batteries by 10 through usage of silicon nanowires.
Yi Cui, who was the head of the research team says: “Given the mature infrastructure behind silicon, this new technology can be pushed to real life quickly.”
This is good news. Lithium-ion batteries are used widely nowadays and such a boost in their capacity due to nanotechnological achievements would probably help arise of lots of applications in different fields like energy storage, mobile device batteries, electric-powered automobiles etc.
They managed to increase the capacity of batteries by storing lithium inside tiny silicon nanowires. As they soak up, lithium nanowires inflate four times their normal size but unlike other shapes, they don’t fracture.

Yukarıda Steven Paul Jobs adında bir şahıs ve şürekasına ait, 5 Eylül 2007 tarihiyle kaydedilmiş dokunmatik “taşınabilir çok işlevli” bir cihazın arayüz ve kullanım teknolojisine dair patent başvurusundan alınmış bir imaj var. 29 Mayıs tarihinde ABD Patent ve Marka enstitüsü incelenebilmesi için halka açmış bu belgeyi. Cihazın iPhone olduğunu tahmin etmişsinizdir.
Apple, patent başvurusunu ise geçen sene yeni ürün tanıtımları yaptığı keynote toplantılarından 5 Eylül 2007 tarihli olanıyla aynı gün yapmış. Aynı tarihte iPhone zaten piyasaydaydı. Bu patentte ürüne eklenen detayların bir kısmı henüz cihazın güncel versiyonlarında bulunmayan GPS gibi özelliklerin kullanımına dair ipuçları veriyor.

Güzel bir pixilation örneği olmuş. Ölçek ve katılımcı sayısı artınca bu tür canlandırmalar insanı daha çok şaşırtıyor.

Daha evvel MuereBoriz’in kurduğu flickr komunitesi QuiltroProject‘ten bahsetmiştim. Yukarıdaki Perros isimli nanometraj yine MuereBoriz’in çalışması.
Flickr Videonun kullanıma girmesini hatırına yukarıdaki videoyu hem hoşuma gittiği için hem de denemek için ekledim. (Bu arada kendim de upload amaçlı hmmm… videonotunu yükledim, web arayüzünden video yükleme prensip olarak fotoğraf ile aynı şekilde işliyor: hmmm…)
Yeni seçeneğe tepki gösterenler olsa bile grafik ve hareketli görüntü çalışan flickr üyelerinin bu opsiyonu çalışmalarını sunmak için kullanacağına eminim. Flickr arayüzünde ya da genel kullanım mantığında büyük bir değişikliğe gitmeden bu yeniliği sistemine eklemiş.
Sayısal fotoğraf makinesi, cep telefonu veya iğne deliği kamera kullananlara, görüntü yaratmak için bileğini konuşturan sanatçılara, balayı fotoğraflarını paylaşanlara ya da sadece görüntü depolayanlara ve hatta eksibisyonistlere kadar yüzbinlerce kişinin şu ana kadar bu servisten yararlandığını düşünürsek kısa süreli video seçeneğinin eklenmesi ancak kendisini görüntülerle ifade edenlerin seçeneklerini arttırıyor.
Flickr’in belki de en iyi özelliği olan dostane komunitelerin gelişmesine önayak olan kullanıcının eklediği kendine ait görüntü ve diğer katılımcıların yorum ve notlarını öne çıkaran şeffaf tasarım ve akıllıca çözülmüş mimarinin sağladığı kişisel gizlilik özelliği video eklenmesiyle pek değişmemiş diye düşünüyorum. Öte yandan flickr APIsi aracılığıyla videoların daha değişik uygulamaları zenginleştireceği de aşikar.
Gruplar, etiketler, bunların kombinasyonundan oluşan clusterların arasına ileride sadece videolardan oluşan gruplar ve küçük komuniteler oluşacaktır. (Grup yöneticileri, grubun türünü sadece fotoğraf, fotoğraf + video ya da sadece video eklenebilir şeklinde sınırlandırabiliyorlar!)
Yine de tepki gösterenlerin de muhtemelen kendilerince haklı oldukları yönler vardır. flickr ile yaşadıkları “aichaku” ilişkisi bunun nedenlerinden biri gibime geliyor. Bu meselenin nereye kadar varacağını bilemiyorum ama kullanıcı adının üzerine “no video” eklemiş bir kaç kişi gördüm. 🙂 Belki durumdan memnun olmayanlar başka servislere yelken açarlar?

Aichaku, bir nesneyi işlevi nedeniyle değil, sadece varoluşu nedeniyle sevmeye japon kültüründe verilen isim. Bu kavramı John Maeda, “The Laws of Simplicity (Simplicity: Design, Technology, Business, Life)” kitabında tasarımcı ve kullanıcı perspektiflerinden ele alıyordu.
